Shamanic Illness, ink on paper, 2024
This sketch explores the concept of "shamanic illness", in Siberian traditions, a spiritual crisis that marks a person's calling to become a shaman. The initiate typically goes through a prolonged illness where they experience severe physical and psychological symptoms like fever, dissociation, and mania, accompanied by vivid dreams and visions where they communicate with spirits. The initiate must embrace the calling to become a shaman or face the consequences. Once the process is completed, they are endowed with healing powers and the ability to move between different realms.
